Nathan brings 30 years of public sector expertise to his role as Innovation Director and Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT). Throughout his In a distinguished career, he has held key executive leadership positions, including serving as Program Development Director and Region Director for both Regions Two and Four—UDOT’s most populous urban center and its largest rural territory, respectively—a dual perspective that uniquely shapes his approach to statewide infrastructure. Currently, he drives UDOT's forward-looking initiatives by overseeing the department’s Maintenance & Facilities, Asset & Performance, Research & Innovation, Data Governance, and Strategic Technologies divisions. Nationally, Nathan has served on many AASHTO committees, including the Committee on Transportation System Security and Resilience (CTSSR), the Committee on Asset Management, and as Chair of the Enterprise Risk Management Subcommittee. He has contributed to numerous NCHRP initiatives addressing infrastructure challenges, enterprise risk, and transportation resilience. His extensive background leading both the largest rural and the Most urban UDOT regions give him a rare, 360-degree perspective on agency risk and operations, including complex partnerships involving federal lands, tribal nations, and national parks. Nathan’s diverse career has included a variety of other experiences in private business as well as local and state government. Outside of his professional life, Nathan is an avid outdoor enthusiast who loves spending time with family and friends doing all kinds of activities available in the great outdoors.
